Fig Garden Golf Club has gotten “greener” since Pickett Solar recently completed solar carports and shade structures for the full-service, 18-hole course.
The project was initiated when Fig Garden Golf Club owner, Dave Knott, was faced with several problems. He had huge electrical bills, not enough shade for customers’ cars, not enough shade for the driving range, and an old parking lot that needed a facelift.
In recent years, solar panels installed on carports in parking lots have become a natural and popular choice for hot San Joaquin Valley summers. Knott felt they were a perfect solution for the parking lot, along with a shade solar structure for the driving range.
Why Pickett Solar
Knott considered a few proposals, but quickly settled on Pickett Solar (a division of Don Pickett & Associates). He said, “I selected Pickett Solar because of their reputation. I was also impressed with the time and effort they put into the proposed design.”
Dave Knott’s demolition and general engineering firm rebuilt the aged parking lot; Pickett Solar constructed the solar carports and shade structures, on which 822 solar panels were mounted.
Knott said, “Pickett Solar’s team was professional and completed the project with minimal disruption to golfers.”
Mike Pickett of Pickett Solar said, “As a division of Don Pickett & Associates, we are well-positioned to handle the complexity of design-build construction projects that often arise with commercial solar installations.”
Timetable for Savings
These solar carports provide energy for the Fig Garden Golf Club and shade for customer vehicles.
Pickett Solar projects that Fig Garden Golf Club will recoup their investment in less than five years and that they will realize a 30% average rate of return over 30 years, which translates into very significant savings.
The completed project eliminates Fig Garden Golf Club’s power bill and provides new solar carports for the parking lot and shade structures for the comfort of golfers.
Summary: 246.60 Kilowatts
Solar Panels: PV Modules / 822 Solar Panels / 300 Watts Each
Mounting: Solar Array On Carport Structures
Offsets: 365,845 kilowatt hours will be saved annually, which is equivalent to the CO2 emissions from 29,000 gallons of gasoline consumed.
